Simone Biles Wins Gold in all-around Gymnastics
The 19-year-old American gymnast Simone Biles once again proved to the world that she’s as close to a super-human as one can get.
Thursday evening, Biles won the all-around final at the Olympics in Rio. Her teammate, Aly Raisman, came in second, and the Russian gymnast Aliya Mustafina came in third.
Although this is her first Olympics, the young gymnast already has two gold medals after the American team won the all-around for teams on Sunday. However, Biles has already set a few world records before this. She is currently the only female gymnast who has won three consecutive world championships for the all-around event. The star is also a four-time U.S. all-around champion. She is the only female gymnast from the United States who has 14 world medals.
Although most of the world is in awe of her, Biles is managing to keep grounded. About her win she said, “I’m not a celebrity. I’m just Simone Biles, but it’s amazing to be recognized for all of this success for myself and for team USA. I’m not the next Usain Bolt or Michael Phelps, I’m the first Simone Biles.
Simone Biles still has the opportunity to win three more gold medals before the Games are ending, in the beam, vault, and floor exercises.
