Alexander Skarsgard Slays in Drag on the Red Carpet
Working it! Alexander Skarsgard made quite an entrance at the San Francisco premiere of Diary of a Teenage Girl on Monday, Aug. 3.
The Swedish-born star, 38, caused a stir in a full-length gold ball gown paired with a metallic clutch. And he didn’t stop at his wardrobe choices! Skarsgard took his look to the next level with a super-voluminous blonde wig (complete with ‘70s-esque, Farrah Fawcett curls), Kim Kardashian-approved contoured cheek bones, and some statement-making false lashes.
Even though the over-6-foot tall True Blood alum was in no need of extra height, he towered over his costar Bel Powley in a pair of high heels.
While Skarsgard didn’t explain his reason for dressing up, it may have been in support of Joshua Grinnell, a San Francisco drag performer (also known as “Peaches Christ”) who plays a transgender character in the film.
In Diary of a Teenage Girl—out on Friday, Aug. 7—Skarsgard’s character begins an affair with the 15-year-old daughter (Powley) of his girlfriend, played by Kristen Wiig.

“I saw it as an interesting challenge to not play him as just a villain,” Skarsgard told Us Weekly of the flick at the Los Angeles Film Festival on June 13. “He’s hooking up with a 15-year-old and the… challenge was to make that relationship real and layered.”
