Benedict Cumberbatch Recieves CBE and Talks Sherlock

Publish date: 2024-06-15

It’s been a busy few weeks for fans of the BBC Sherlock series, with the official trailer of the Christmas special being released, and the date of airing confirmed for January 1st, and further news being cinemas across the UK will be showing the BBC’s exclusive episode of Sherlock on January 1st.

After months of rumours, and only the Christmas special that takes you back in time being announced, Sherlock fans and ‘Cumberb*tches’ (although Benedict Cumberbatch himself prefers to call them “Cumberpeople”) were scared that there would be no more series of Sherlock after this special. Each series before has had approximately two years between each of them being aired, and this would be the first series that has a longer gap than two years. This is what has led to much suspicion of the fantastically marvellous Sherlock series being no more.

But just today, Benedict Cumberbatch, the actor behind Sherlock Holmes, received a CBE from the Queen at Buckingham Palace for his work as an actor and charitable actions. Congrats Benedict!

While speaking to the BBC, he said:

“[Her Majesty] asked me what I was doing at the moment, and I told her I had finished a three month run at the Barbican, which she knew of. And I told her I had just got back last night from filming in Nepal, Doctor Strange for Marvel, then I’ll be going straight into the fourth series of Sherlock.”

So surreptitiously, Benedict Cumberbatch just confirmed the fourth series of Sherlock is happening. Hurrah! No doubt the reason the series is taking so long to film and air on TV is due to his busy schedule, having just finished his 4 month run of performing in Hamlet in London, and mid-filming for his upcoming Marvel film next November. The Queen herself told him “Oh, it never stops does it?”

So do not fret fans, for Sherlock will return to our TV screens in the form of a fourth series. However, it is yet to be officially confirmed by the BBC, and any dates are yet to be revealed. For now though, this news will settle ‘Sherlockians’ and keep their minds in peace watching the The Abominable Bride this coming new year.
